Design vision
Inspired by a particular sensibility of European Hospitality - the building seeks to expand the public realm by setting back the proposed building from the boundary at ground level and instead creating a double height, covered “piazza” that welcomes the public to sit, relax and enjoy the hospitality offering on street level while energising the foyer. A deep garden bed allows for a lush and landscaped ground plane.
The textural brick podium establishes a strong street presence and makes reference to Cremorne’s original low rise brick warehouses. The building setbacks further along the western side, creating a sensitive interface towards the neighbouring two-three storey townhouses. Once inside the building, a central light well punches through the levels, allowing natural light to flood the office spaces and providing a point of interest as soon as someone arrives into the office spaces from the lift.
Levels 4 to 8 have been designed to cater for an elevated office experience – the façade is a clean and minimal “glass tower” that contrasts with the robust brick podium and takes on the spectacular views of Melbourne’s CBD and leisure precinct.
Electric vehicle and bike chargers are provided for, with water efficient fixtures throughout – ensuring the building’s longevity in the Cremorne precinct.
